Building Clean: Improving Efficiency, Health, and Equity in Housing and Creating Good Jobs

When buildings are designed, built, and maintained to protect the health of people and the environment—and if the manufacturing of building products and materials create good-paying union jobs in the U.S.—then the wellbeing of people and communities will improve, especially for people of color. Building Clean works to increase the use of building products that are more efficient, less toxic, and manufactured in the U.S. We aim to improve the physical, environmental, and economic health of communities and promote a more equitable future for all.

Manufacturing towns dot the nation, and advanced manufacturing helps provide the foundation for the economy in major regions of the United States. Industries like the steel and automotive industries supported good-paying jobs, middle-class families, and prosperous communities for decades, while also spurring American leadership in innovation and technology. That’s still true in some areas. But in many others, factories have closed or new industries offer jobs that all too often are poorly paid, insecure, or unsafe.

Ways and Means Reconciliation Package Provides Important Clean Energy and Manufacturing Tax Credits, including Critical Labor and Domestic Content Provisions, but Room for Improvement Remains

The Committee on Ways and Means yesterday passed its budget reconciliation package, a broad piece of legislation that includes several tax credits supporting the deployment of clean energy and the growth of the nation’s clean technology manufacturing sector and supply chains. Critically, the bill has language to ensure these investments translate into good jobs and domestic manufacturing.

Energy and Commerce Reconciliation Package Makes Great Strides to Improve Critical Infrastructure, Gaps Remain

The House Energy and Commerce Committee yesterday passed its budget reconciliation package. The package funds critical infrastructure efforts such as fully replacing lead service lines, improving the energy efficiency of residential and public buildings, removing toxic chemicals from schools, modernizing hospitals, and expanding electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure. In response to the passage of the package, the BlueGreen Alliance released a statement from Executive Director Jason Walsh.

As Congress debates efforts to boost economic recovery and build back better, U.S. Rep. Dean Phillips (D-MN) today joined labor, environmental, and faith leaders, and suburban elected officials at an event advocating for federal investments in Bus Rapid Transit (BRT). At the event, Rep. Phillips and advocates urged investments in future BRT lines to expand transit and economic opportunity.
