Safe Chemicals Act to Address Worker and Community Health and Safety
Charlotte Brody, Director of Chemicals, Public Health and Green Chemistry for the BlueGreen Alliance lauded the introduction of the Safe Chemicals Act of 2011.
WASHINGTON, D.C. (April 14, 2011) Following the introduction of the Safe Chemicals Act of 2011 by New Jersey Senator Frank Lautenberg, the BlueGreen Alliance released the following statement from Charlotte Brody, Director of Chemicals, Public Health and Green Chemistry:
“The BlueGreen Alliance applauds the efforts of Senator Lautenberg and his co-sponsors to reform and modernize the Toxic Substances Act of 1976 to protect workers and communities from exposure to dangerous chemicals.
“It makes sense to require makers of chemicals used in every day products to prove they are safe and to prioritize chemicals based on the risk they pose. Additionally, the legislation will ensure that Americans have access to reliable chemical information and provides funding for research and development of green alternatives that will be healthier for our families and our environment.
“We look forward to working with Senator Lautenberg and the Committee on this critical legislation and we hope that Congress will swiftly act to protect the public and the environment.”
