Regulating Methane from New Oil and Gas Facilities is a Win for the Climate, Boon for Job Creation
November 2, 2021
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency today released its methane rule for new oil and gas facilities. The rule will prevent unnecessary and harmful methane leaks from the oil and gas industry. In response to the release of the rule, the BlueGreen Alliance released the following statement from Executive Director Jason Walsh:
“Preventing methane leaks in the oil and gas industry is not only a major win in the fight against climate change, but an opportunity to create good-paying jobs and protect the health of workers and our communities. Methane is a greenhouse gas several times more potent than carbon dioxide and if we are going to avoid the worst impacts of climate change it is imperative that we prevent these unnecessary leaks.”
