Putting Workers, Communities in Danger Won’t Make America Great Again
After the release of President Trump's budget blueprint, the BlueGreen Alliance called out deep cuts to the EPA and Department of Labor that will cripple the agencies' ability to protect people and the environment.
WASHINGTON, DC (March 16, 2017) – The Trump administration today released its budget blueprint that proposes deep cuts to important agencies like the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the U.S. Department of Labor (DOL). After that release, the BlueGreen Alliance released the following statement from its Executive Director Kim Glas:
“President Trump’s budget proposal is not a blueprint to make America great again; it is a return to a time when corporate profits were prioritized over workers and the environment. Cuts to the EPA and Department of Labor simply mean fewer workplace safety and health inspections and less attention to the protection of human health and the environment.
“Not only will these cuts reduce the ability of agencies to implement and enforce current protections and issue needed new ones, it will put a lot of Americans out of work. Communities depend on workforce and environmental protections, and the people there to enforce them. We urge Congress to reject this budget blueprint, and to ensure workers on the job have the protection they need and that our environment is preserved for generations to come.”
