Building Clean: Improving Efficiency, Health, and Equity in Housing and Creating Good Jobs

When buildings are designed, built, and maintained to protect the health of people and the environment—and if the manufacturing of building products and materials create good-paying union jobs in the U.S.—then the wellbeing of people and communities will improve, especially for people of color. Building Clean works to increase the use of building products that are more efficient, less toxic, and manufactured in the U.S. We aim to improve the physical, environmental, and economic health of communities and promote a more equitable future for all.

Solidarity for Climate Action: The Plan We Need to Get American Manufacturing Back on Track

Manufacturing towns dot the nation, and advanced manufacturing helps provide the foundation for the economy in major regions of the United States. Industries like the steel and automotive industries supported good-paying jobs, middle-class families, and prosperous communities for decades, while also spurring American leadership in innovation and technology. That’s still true in some areas. But in many others, factories have closed or new industries offer jobs that all too often are poorly paid, insecure, or unsafe.

Latest Investment in Coal Communities Shows Biden-Harris Commitment to Building a Clean Economy for All

The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) today announced the selection of 14 projects to address critical clean energy supply chain vulnerabilities and grow domestic clean energy manufacturing in 12 states. The funding from the Advanced Energy Manufacturing and Recycling Grant Program will help revitalize communities affected by coal mine or coal power plant closures.

Potential Commercial Leasing for Wind Power Development on the Gulf of Mexico Outer Continental Shelf—Request for Competitive Interest

We welcome responsible development of offshore wind energy in the Gulf of Mexico and are supportive of U.S. Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM) leasing Wind Energy Area (WEA) options C and D, as described in the public notice. Whatever leasing path BOEM pursues must meet high labor and environmental standards. This includes bid credits or lease stipulations related to workforce development, supply chain plans, project labor agreements (PLAs), and environmental mitigation and monitoring, in addition to other criteria laid out in this comment. Commercial Leasing for Wind Power Development on the Central Atlantic Outer Continental Shelf-Central Atlantic 2-Call for Information and Nominations

We are encouraged by the Biden-Harris administration’s plan to hold a lease sale in the Central Atlantic in 2025. The states in this region will require more offshore wind leasing to meet their clean energy goals and we are happy to see this next step towards identifying new wind energy areas. States like Maryland are poised to be an offshore wind supply chain hub and more leases will help support the growing offshore wind industry and the resulting job creation in the region. As U.S. Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM) considers the future lease areas in the central Atlantic, many factors should be considered, including creating high-quality, union jobs; training and employment benefits; domestic supply chains; ensuring environmental justice; and environmental protection. Middletown Works Investments Showcase How Biden-Harris Industrial Policy is Promoting Innovation in Manufacturing

The U.S. Department of Energy has awarded Cleveland Cliffs funding from their Industrial Demonstrations Program (IDP) to get the first phase of a low-carbon steel project underway in Middletown, Ohio. The company plans to install a hydrogen-ready flex-fuel Direct Reduced Iron (DRI) plant and two electric melting furnaces at the facility.
