When buildings are designed, built, and maintained to protect the health of people and the environment—and if the manufacturing of building products and materials create good-paying union jobs in the U.S.—then the wellbeing of people and communities will improve, especially for people of color. Building Clean works to increase the use of building products that are more efficient, less toxic, and manufactured in the U.S. We aim to improve the physical, environmental, and economic health of communities and promote a more equitable future for all.

Solidarity for Climate Action: The Plan We Need to Get American Manufacturing Back on Track

Manufacturing towns dot the nation, and advanced manufacturing helps provide the foundation for the economy in major regions of the United States. Industries like the steel and automotive industries supported good-paying jobs, middle-class families, and prosperous communities for decades, while also spurring American leadership in innovation and technology. That’s still true in some areas. But in many others, factories have closed or new industries offer jobs that all too often are poorly paid, insecure, or unsafe.

BlueGreen Alliance Applauds Senate Passage of Inflation Reduction Act

The U.S. Senate today passed the Inflation Reduction Act, a budget reconciliation bill that includes $369 billion in energy, environment, and climate investments that will create an estimated 9 million jobs over 10 years. Additionally, the bill will reduce emissions up to 44% by 2030, invest in economic and racial justice programs, and support and create good-paying, union jobs across the nation.Following the vote, the BlueGreen Alliance released the following statement from Executive Director Jason Walsh.

Senate Reconciliation Bill Holds Massive Job Creation, Emissions Reduction Potential 

The BlueGreen Alliance immediately got to work combing through the more than 100 investments included in the Inflation Reduction Act and has completed an initial analysis of the potential job creation and emissions reduction benefits of just a handful of those investments. What we found is that those investments alone will create hundreds of thousands of jobs.

BlueGreen Alliance Applauds Breakthrough in Reconciliation Negotiations

U.S. Sen. Joe Manchin (D-WV) today announced he had reached a deal with U.S. Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) to vote for the Inflation Reduction Act of 2022—a budget reconciliation bill that is expected to include $369 billion in energy and climate investments. The announcement comes after months of negotiations to reach agreement on budget reconciliation legislation.

In a letter, the BlueGreen Alliance focused on the opportunity the Next Generation Deliver Vehicle contract represents an opportunity to rebuild the largest non-defense federal fleet to advance climate progress, improve air quality in our neighborhoods, support workers & their communities, and model responsible procurement practices. The turnover of the aging fleet can also restore the independent agency’s financial stability in the long term through the significant total cost of ownership savings that come with electrification.

Biden Massachusetts Visit Highlights Transformative Potential for Offshore Wind Supply Chain Development

President Joe Biden today traveled to Somerset, MA to announce a number of climate change initiatives and tour a former coal-fired power plant that has been converted to manufacture products, including submarine power cables for use in offshore wind projects. It is estimated that 6,800 miles of cable will be needed to reach the administration’s goal of 30 gigawatts of offshore wind capacity by 2030.
