Long Bay Lease Sale will Advance Nation’s Offshore Wind Goals
The U.S. Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM) announced today the upcoming auction of two lease areas for the development of offshore wind in the Carolina Long Bay. The leases cover more than 110,000 acres and once developed, could provide enough offshore wind energy to power nearly 500,000 homes.
In response to the announcement, the BlueGreen Alliance released the following statement from Executive Director Jason Walsh:
“Unlocking the vast potential we have for offshore wind off our nation’s coasts is a win for the environment and—if done right, with strong labor standards and requirements to help build out a robust domestic supply chain—a win for workers and the economy. Today’s announcement is in line with the strong support for offshore wind we have seen from the Biden administration and we look forward to more of these important projects taking shape off our coasts.”
