Labor-Environmental Partnership Lauds California’s Efforts to Combat Climate Change, Promote Clean Energy
Adapting our country — and the world — to our changing climate and taking meaningful steps to reduce our impact on it will provide California and America with an incredible opportunity to create and secure good jobs.
The California Natural Resources Agency and the California Energy Commission today released “Our Changing Climate 2012,” an overview of independent scientific studies to inform policymakers on how to help state and local communities survive and thrive as the climate changes.
Below is a statement on the report from theBlueGreen Alliance’s Executive Director David Foster:
“California is leading the country in building a cleaner, more efficient economy and reducing carbon emissions causing climate change. With record temperatures being felt around the country this summer heightening the public’s awareness of climate change and the need to address it, it is also time for us to embrace the opportunities a low-carbon economy represents.
“Adapting our country — and the world — to our changing climate and taking meaningful steps to reduce our impact on it will provide California and America with an incredible opportunity to create and secure good jobs in renewable energy, clean energy manufacturing, recycling, energy efficiency, smart grid, greener and safer chemicals and products, and transportation. It is in these industries we will find the solutions to America’s economic and environmental problems.
“The state of California is leading the country and the world in acknowledging that we must adequately prepare for the climate impacts already impacting our communities, and that we must scale-up a low carbon infrastructure. This will create jobs, and this report serves as proof of that.”
