House Votes to Undermine Critical Worker, Environmental Protections

BlueGreen Alliance Executive Director Kim Glas weighs in on the vote today in the U.S. House to pass the Midnight Rules Relief Act, which would undermine critical worker and environmental protections.

January 4, 2017

WASHINGTON, DC (January 4, 2017) – Following the passage of H.R. 21, the Midnight Rules Relief Act of 2017, by the U.S. House of Representatives earlier today, the BlueGreen Alliance released the following statement from Executive Director Kim Glas:

“This bill is a dangerous proposal for public health, workers, and the environment.

“The Midnight Rules Relief Act would enable Congress—in one vote—to overturn many of the critical standards finalized towards the end of the Obama administration that will not only protect public health, our environment, and workers, but also create good jobs across the country.

“This bill would put workers in danger to ensure companies make more profit at their expense; move us backwards on the progress we’ve made to address climate change and pollution; and cost American workers the opportunity to get good, family-sustaining jobs in a cleaner economy.”
