House Natural Resources Committee Passes Abandoned Mine Land Bill
The House of Representatives Committee on Natural Resources today reported out the Surface Mining Control and Reclamation Act Amendments of 2019, which reauthorizes the Abandoned Mine Land Program. The bill will help coal communities adapt to changing economics, while reclaiming their natural landscape.
BlueGreen Alliance Executive Director Jason Walsh testified in November 2019 in support of the bill.
In response to today’s markup the BlueGreen Alliance released the following statement from Walsh:
“As our nation moves to cleaner and cheaper forms of energy we cannot let impacted communities fall through the cracks. This bill will ensure coal impacted communities are enabled to reclaim and clean up their environments, freeing up land for more sustainable economic development opportunities, and in turn will revitalize and diversify local economies.”
