Congress Comes Together to Help American Workers
The U.S. Senate passed the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act, a legislative package in response to the COVID-19 pandemic that includes added accountability for taxpayer funds that would go to companies; bolsters unemployment compensation; and directs urgently needed help to hospitals, schools, and millions of Americans, among other provisions.
Following its passage in the Senate, the BlueGreen Alliance released a statement from Executive Director Jason Walsh:
“This is a huge step forward in the fight against COVID-19. This legislation helps the people who need it most—including frontline workers.
“We applaud Congressional Democrats for standing up for all working people and holding the line to make sure that this bill was done quickly but also done right. The provisions that Democrats fought for will help secure American jobs for workers and bolster our economy, while making sure there is accountability in loans and other funds going to corporations.”
