BlueGreen Alliance Statement on Senate Vote to Preserve BLM Methane Rule
WASHINGTON, D.C. (May 10, 2017) The U.S. Senate today voted 51-49 against a procedural motion to advance S.J. Res. 11, a Congressional Review Act resolution of disapproval blocking efforts to curb the waste of methane in natural gas production on federal and Tribal lands, also known as the Bureau of Land Management’s (BLM) Methane Rule. The BlueGreen Alliance released the following statement from Executive Director Kim Glas:
“Today’s action by the U.S. Senate to preserve the BLM Methane rule is a victory for workers, communities, and the environment. Smart, commonsense solutions like this are needed to help address the massive consequences of climate change, to protect workers and communities from dangerous chemicals that accompany these unnecessary leaks—like the carcinogen benzene, and to help grow the economy and create good jobs.”
