WASHINGTON, DC (June 3, 2013) – After the announcement of the passing of Senator Lautenberg earlier today, the BlueGreen Alliance released a statement from Executive Director David Foster:
“We are saddened to hear of Senator Lautenberg’s passing. New Jerseyans have lost a long-serving and well-loved leader, and Americans everywhere have lost a tireless and outspoken advocate for better public health protections, stronger safety standards and a cleaner environment.
“It’s no doubt that Senator Lautenberg’s contributions in the U.S. Senate have changed many, many lives for the better, both in New Jersey and across the country. Notably, his work toward improving chemicals safety and updating the Toxic Substances Control Act marks a turning point in protecting workers, the environment and public health. His work as a champion for the environment and for better transportation policies that have improved rail safety and revitalized Amtrak is second to none. We offer condolences to his family and to his constituents.”
