WASHINGTON, D.C. –  The U.S. Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM) yesterday approved the nation’s tenth commercial scale offshore wind project. US Wind Maryland marks more than 15 gigawatts (GW) of offshore wind energy projects that have been approved in the United States, with the potential to power 5.25 million homes after project completion.

The US Wind project is expected to provide up to 2 GW of clean energy and create an estimated 2,600 jobs annually for the next seven years.

Following the announcement from the White House, the BlueGreen Alliance issued a statement from Offshore Wind Director Sarah Giltz:

“We are excited to see approval for the US Wind Maryland project and the growth of offshore wind across the nation. This is all thanks to the commitment of the Biden-Harris administration to move clean energy projects forward. With approved projects up and down the east coast and leases on the Atlantic, Pacific, and Gulf coasts, we are that much closer to our goal of 30 GW of offshore wind energy by 2030. We celebrate this victory for clean energy to power our country and create good jobs.”
