The BlueGreen Alliance (BGA), a coalition of labor unions and environmental organizations, today announced the addition of Ceres to its partnership. Ceres is an advocacy nonprofit organization that works with companies and investors to accelerate the transition to a cleaner, more just, and sustainable economy.
Ceres was founded by a group of investors and environmentalists in 1989 after the devastating Exxon Valdez oil spill in Alaska. The organization inspires the largest companies and investors to act to reduce their impact on the nation’s climate, water, and natural resources. Ceres is known for developing the “Ceres Principles” and the “Ceres Roadmap 2030,” guiding businesses to act more responsibly to protect the planet while safeguarding their bottom lines. The organization’s work over the last 35 years demonstrates a strong commitment to protecting and supporting businesses and communities in the country’s transition to a clean energy economy.
“We are thrilled to continue working with BGA in this critical moment,” said Ceres CEO and President Mindy Lubber. “For more than a decade, we’ve worked with BGA as they have effectively brought together environmental and labor advocates to support meaningful legislative change at the federal and state levels. We look forward to these continued efforts to maintain public policies that support the investment in the clean energy transition, create jobs, and improve the health of our economies and communities.”
“We are thrilled to welcome Ceres as our newest member. We know they’ll be a strong partner in the fight for a clean, prosperous, and equitable economy,” said BGA Executive Director Jason Walsh. “BGA’s mission has never been an easy one, and we’re now in an all-hands-on-deck battle to defend the progress we’ve made over the last decade. Ceres’ proud history advocating for environmental responsibility across the business community greatly strengthens our coalition.”
“For years, Ceres has brought together companies and investors to build a more sustainable economy and we are thrilled to welcome them formally into the BlueGreen Alliance,” said National Wildlife Federation President and CEO Collin O’Mara, a co-chair of BGA. “We look forward to continue working with Ceres and our partners and allies in BGA to reduce pollution and create well-paying jobs, especially in communities that have powered our nation and economy for generations.”
“We founded the BlueGreen Alliance on the principle that corporations can and must be held accountable to both their workforces and the communities in which they operate,” said United Steelworkers (USW) International President David McCall. “We are proud to welcome into our alliance Ceres and its invaluable work mobilizing a wide array of stakeholders, as together we continue our fight for good jobs and a healthy environment.”
