The Supreme Court today overturned a long-held doctrine established 40 years ago in Chevron v. Natural Resources Defense Council. The doctrine allowed federal agencies to create regulations that are reasonable interpretations of statutes passed by Congress. This ruling will have far-reaching impacts on health, safety, and the environment.

Following the court’s decision, the BlueGreen Alliance released a statement from Executive Director Jason Walsh:

“Trump’s Supreme Court continues to undermine basic protections for working people and the environment with this ruling. This decision will do real harm to people and communities.

“The bottom line is that this ruling will hamper efforts to get lead out of water in homes and schools, roll back safety rules that keep manufacturing workers and the communities and environment around plants safe, and make it harder for workers to organize and form unions. This is yet another example of how dangerous Trump’s Supreme Court has become to the American people.”
