Building Clean: Improving Efficiency, Health, and Equity in Housing and Creating Good Jobs

When buildings are designed, built, and maintained to protect the health of people and the environment—and if the manufacturing of building products and materials create good-paying union jobs in the U.S.—then the wellbeing of people and communities will improve, especially for people of color. Building Clean works to increase the use of building products that are more efficient, less toxic, and manufactured in the U.S. We aim to improve the physical, environmental, and economic health of communities and promote a more equitable future for all.

Solidarity for Climate Action: The Plan We Need to Get American Manufacturing Back on Track

Manufacturing towns dot the nation, and advanced manufacturing helps provide the foundation for the economy in major regions of the United States. Industries like the steel and automotive industries supported good-paying jobs, middle-class families, and prosperous communities for decades, while also spurring American leadership in innovation and technology. That’s still true in some areas. But in many others, factories have closed or new industries offer jobs that all too often are poorly paid, insecure, or unsafe.

BlueGreen Alliance Responds to Request for Information on the U.S. Department of Energy’s Use of Demand-Side Support for Clean Energy Technologies

As DOE develops its demand-side strategy, it should view it as part of a holistic industrial strategy. Awards should reflect the value-added role of demand-side support for target sectors and technologies as part of a comprehensive strategy. We urge DOE—and other relevant agencies and offices—to publicly outline such a strategy after incorporating stakeholder input, building on DOE’s Industrial Decarbonization Roadmap.

The BlueGreen Alliance Responds to the U.S. Internal Revenue Service’s Request for Comments on Elective Payments of Applicable Credits and Transfer of Certain Clean Energy Tax Credits Included in the Inflation Reduction Act

Public schools, state colleges, public universities, public hospitals, and public power utilities are very interested in reducing carbon emissions through the utilization of clean energy tax credits. Further, many state universities and other instrumentalities produce their own power and could benefit greatly from the investment or production tax credits. It is critical to ensure these entities can benefit from direct-pay subsidies in the Inflation Reduction Act.

This is aligned with the Justice40 initiative to ensure federal investments benefit disadvantaged communities as well as the Good Jobs Initiative that calls on all federal agencies to create good, quality jobs.

Through the passage of the Inflation Reduction Act, and through its programs’ implementation, legislative and agency action can work together to ensure that good jobs and a clean environment also advance critical priorities like economic and climate justice. We appreciate the opportunity to inform/respond to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Request for Information on transportation programs, particularly the Clean Heavy-Duty Vehicles Program.
