When buildings are designed, built, and maintained to protect the health of people and the environment—and if the manufacturing of building products and materials create good-paying union jobs in the U.S.—then the wellbeing of people and communities will improve, especially for people of color. Building Clean works to increase the use of building products that are more efficient, less toxic, and manufactured in the U.S. We aim to improve the physical, environmental, and economic health of communities and promote a more equitable future for all.

Solidarity for Climate Action: The Plan We Need to Get American Manufacturing Back on Track

Manufacturing towns dot the nation, and advanced manufacturing helps provide the foundation for the economy in major regions of the United States. Industries like the steel and automotive industries supported good-paying jobs, middle-class families, and prosperous communities for decades, while also spurring American leadership in innovation and technology. That’s still true in some areas. But in many others, factories have closed or new industries offer jobs that all too often are poorly paid, insecure, or unsafe.

Clean Economy Act Will Put Workers Front and Center in the Fight Against Climate Change

Sen. Tom Carper (D-Del.) and 32 cosponsors today introduced the Clean Economy Act. The bill sets a national goal of reaching net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050—an objective the BlueGreen Alliance also calls for in its platform Solidarity for Climate Action, which was released in June 2019. Additionally, the bill includes measures to improve economic competitiveness, increase investments in infrastructure, ensure equitable access to worker training programs in innovative clean energy fields, and strengthen labor standards.

BlueGreen Alliance Applauds Introduction of Bill to Extend Black Lung Excise Tax

Senators Joe Manchin (D-WV), Doug Jones (D-AL), Mark Warner (D-VA), Tim Kaine (D-VA), Sherrod Brown (D-OH), and Bob Casey (D-PA) Friday introduced the Black Lung Benefits Disability Trust Fund Solvency Act of 2020, a bill to extend the black lung excise tax through the end of 2030. The tax provides revenue to the Black Lung Disability Trust Fund, which helps coal miners with black lung get the medical care they need.
