Navigating the Build America, Buy America Act

January 23, 2025

The BlueGreen Alliance Foundation (BGAF) and Ecomedes today hosted a webinar exploring the Build America, Buy America (BABA) Act. BABA—part of the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law (BIL)—strengthens and expands “Buy America” requirements for federally financed infrastructure projects. This new policy has significantly increased the need for U.S. manufacturers to identify their products as BABA compliant. The webinar highlighted and built upon the BlueGreen Alliance’s “Making BABA Work for American Manufacturers” guide, released in December.

“BABA can be a powerful tool for U.S. manufacturers to highlight the importance of their American-made products, but they have to know how to get that information out there,” said, Paul Shahriari, Founder and Chief Innovation Officer of Ecomedes. “We’re excited for the opportunity to showcase useful tools to help manufacturers navigate this law.”

A recording of the webinar can be found here. During the webinar, presenters highlighted the market opportunity BABA provides and how manufacturers can demonstrate that their products are BABA compliant.

“BABA helps create a level playing field for U.S. manufacturers like us,” said Tim Nass, Vice President of Sales at SAFTI FIRST. “As we work to navigate this new law, we’re finding huge opportunities to highlight the importance of lifting up domestic manufacturing.”

“Buy America policies have supported U.S. manufacturing for decades, but the policy in itself is limited. BABA opens the door to new industries,” said BGAF President Jason Walsh. “Navigating new laws can be tricky, and the BlueGreen Alliance Foundation is working hard to develop resources that can help manufacturers understand the complexities of BABA.”
