Manufacturing Under Biden vs. Trump: The Proof is On the Factory Floor

September 23, 2024

If we want the United States to succeed, we must prioritize a clean environment, and a clean economy hinged on a strong domestic manufacturing sector.

Our new report showcases the different paths that the Biden-Harris and Trump administrations have taken in realizing the clean manufacturing sector we need to fight climate change and clean up our air and water. The Biden-Harris administration created 775,000 new manufacturing jobs and thanks to their legacy of transformative federal investments, we can expect to see over 300,000 new manufacturing jobs a year until 2032. Plus, these investments drive jobs to the communities that need them the most because of the Justice40 Initiative and other equity measures to ensure hard-hit communities see the economic gains of our clean economy.

The Biden-Harris administration created 775,000 new manufacturing jobs. We can expect to see over 300,000 new manufacturing jobs a year until 2032.

Meanwhile, former President Trump’s legacy is lost jobs. The United States lost 200,000 manufacturing jobs while he was in office and the trajectory of manufacturing job losses started even before the COVID-19 pandemic. He failed to invest in manufacturing in his term and the results speak for themselves.

Trump’s record of bad policies and lack of investment leading to job losses would be exacerbated by the playbook for his administration known as Project 2025. This policy framework was developed by the Heritage Foundation—a think tank funded by Conservative megadonors and staffed by many former Trump administration officials—and lays out a plan to restructure the U.S. government to fit a conservative agenda. The proposal encourages the next president to defund the offices growing the clean economy and revitalizing our manufacturing sector. Domestic manufacturing growth is not valued or prioritized at all in Project 2025. Conservatives say in the proposal we should be “doing more with less” and free up the “the time and talents of millions of people for other, additional uses,” by supporting supply chain growth in Central and South America. We believe the best thing for our country is for our clean energy future to be built here at home, where production is often cleaner and made through good-paying, union jobs in safe working conditions.

We know what’s at stake if Trump holds the White House again. All our progress will be undone in an instant. We cannot and will not let that happen.
