Good Jobs Executive Order Shows Biden-Harris Administration’s Support for Worker Freedoms
A newly signed Executive Order by President Biden will create a task force led by the National Economic Council and U.S. Department of Labor (DOL) to ensure the administration is doing all it can under current law and going further to specify, “a clear list of labor standards that all federal agencies should look to prioritize.” The order builds on the Good Jobs Initiative, a framework that outlines the essential principles of a good job, including recruitment and hiring, pay and benefits, job security and career advancement, collective bargaining rights, and working conditions. The principles also prioritize diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility to expand access to stable and secure jobs, especially for those from underserved communities.
Following the release of the order, the BlueGreen Alliance released a statement from Executive Director Jason Walsh:
“The Biden-Harris administration is working hard to ensure that federal investments in America from the Inflation Reduction Act, CHIPS and Science Act, and Bipartisan Infrastructure Law create good-paying, safe, union jobs. Today’s Executive Order will empower workers, create more career pathways for successful careers, and maximize the benefits of the historic investments the Biden-Harris administration signed into law.”
