BlueGreen Alliance Unveils Latest Auto Industry Map for Domestic Manufacturing Advocates

January 22, 2025

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The BlueGreen Alliance today unveiled a new tool that maps the domestic auto supply chain and tracks federal investments allocated to grow the industry.

The map—developed by the BlueGreen Alliance Foundation—features more than 2,000 U.S. manufacturing facilities in the fuel-efficient and electric automotive supply chain, including assemblers and suppliers of electric vehicles and their components, internal combustion engine vehicles and their components, hybrid assemblers, and fuel agnostic suppliers.

During the webinar, BlueGreen Alliance Research and Policy Analyst Joe Kendrick demonstrated how to navigate the different features of the tool that allow users to filter and explore the map, show facilities in individual Congressional Districts and hard-hit communities like coal and deindustrialized communities, and identify which plants benefit from the 30D Electric Vehicle Tax Credit.

“This incredible tool gives us a holistic picture of the U.S. auto supply chain and indicates just how many communities have a stake in its current and future success,” said Ted Fertik, BlueGreen Alliance Vice President of Manufacturing and Industrial Policy. “As we contemplate the future of domestic vehicle manufacturing, it’s critical that we recognize just how much of our economy is tied to it, and just how many livelihoods depend on it. Revitalizing the U.S. auto industry means building an economy that works for working people.”

“The benefits of a robust domestic auto industry extend well beyond individual manufacturers,” said Anna Fendley, United Steelworkers (USW) Director of Regulatory and State Policy. “USW members proudly produce the metal, glass, plastics, chemicals, fuels, and other pieces across the automotive supply chain. As we look to revitalize manufacturing in the United States, rebuilding this sector affords us an opportunity to support a wide range of communities.”
