BlueGreen Alliance Responds to Release of EPA’s Heavy-Duty Vehicles Rule
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency today released its greenhouse gas emissions for heavy-duty vehicles beginning in model year 2027. The updated performance-based standard will create a net carbon dioxide reduction of 1 billion metric tons between 2027 and 2055. The new standards are technology neutral, allowing automakers to choose how to meet them, whether through innovations like hybridization, battery electric vehicles, or hydrogen fuel cell vehicles or efficiency improvements to gas- and diesel-powered vehicles.

In response to the updated standards, the BlueGreen Alliance released the following statement from Executive Director Jason Walsh:
“The standards released today pave the way for a smooth transition to cleaner trucks, buses, and work vehicles. They also provide leeway for the installation of a robust network of heavy-duty-specific alternative fueling infrastructure. Standards like the one released today have a proven track record of reducing air pollution, resulting in significant public health benefits—particularly in low-income communities and communities of color, which bear the brunt of pollution impacts.”
