BlueGreen Alliance Applauds First Ever Pacific Offshore Wind Lease Sale
The U.S. Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM) today completed the first-ever lease sale for offshore wind rights on the West Coast. The sale represents the first U.S. offshore wind lease sale in the Pacific Ocean and is the first to support the potential for commercial-scale floating offshore wind.
The BlueGreen Alliance released the following statement from Executive Director Jason Walsh:
“With today’s historic lease sale, the Biden administration demonstrates that—from coast to coast—the United States is all in on offshore wind. Opening up the Pacific Coast to offshore wind and advancing floating offshore wind generation represents a new era for this growing U.S. industry.
“We applaud the administration’s efforts to promote the use of project labor agreements, domestic content, workforce training programs, and community benefits agreements in the lease contract. Coupled with the incentives included in the Inflation Reduction Act, the offshore wind industry stands to create good union jobs for workers on both coasts and in manufacturing communities across the nation.”
