“More Jobs, Less Pollution” reports that achieving a 75 percent national recycling rate would create nearly 1.5 million additional jobs while reducing pollution and other harmful toxins while building strong local employment bases.

Higher recycling rates hold the potential to produce millions of new jobs, would strengthen local economies, reduce pollution and improve public health, according to a new report, “More Jobs, Less Pollution.”

New report finds recycling 75 percent of the nation’s waste will create nearly 1.5 million jobs by 2030 while significantly reducing pollution, saving water and energy, and building economically strong and healthy communities.

Calling the need for action on job creation “urgent,” Congressmen John Conyers and Hansen Clarke and local labor and environmental leaders joined together today at Detroit-based NextEnergy to urge the passage of the President’s jobs plan.

After a historic victory in Ohio with the defeat of Issue 2, Executive Director David Foster said, “This is a proud day for the people of Ohio and the rest of the country. Now it’s time to turn focus to creating good jobs for the 21st century economy.”

The BlueGreen Alliance and its labor and environmental partner organizations strongly support a comprehensive national strategy to address waste reduction, reuse and recycling.

After the Labor Department announced 80,000 jobs were gained in October and the Senate failed to pass the Rebuild America Jobs Act, David Foster released a statement saying, “The President’s plan to get millions of Americans back to work is a no-brainer.”
