Trump Disregards Workers with Orders for Mass Firings
Today, President Donald Trump ordered federal agencies to develop plans—known as Agency Reductions in Force and Reorganization Plans (ARRPs)—for mass layoffs at their organizations and submit them to the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) no later than March 13, 2025.
This directive comes after the president and Elon Musk, head of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), took several actions in their ongoing hostile takeover of the federal government. This includes coercing deferred resignations of more than 75,000 federal employees; demanding responses from every government worker under threat of termination with no authority; illegally accessing government systems; and laying off 20,000 workers without cause in less than 45 days since the inauguration.
Following the ARRP memorandum, the BlueGreen Alliance released a statement from Executive Director Jason Walsh:
“Trump and his unelected, co-Job Killer in Chief continue to cause real harm to Americans who rely on federal agencies and programs to help them. This will devastate families and communities.
“An unelected billionaire is playing president to get even richer while working people struggle to make ends meet. No one voted for this. Congress needs to stand up and protect their constituents, check Trump’s and Musk’s overreach of power, and act in the best interest of the nation.”
