Competitive Offshore Wind Lease Sale in the Gulf of Maine is Good for Jobs, Environment
The U.S. Bureau of Ocean Management (BOEM) today held an offshore wind lease auction on the Outer Continental Shelf in the Gulf of Maine. The lease areas sold include four locations off the coasts of Massachusetts, New Hampshire, and Maine. These areas have the potential to power more than 2.3 million homes.
Following the auction, the BlueGreen Alliance released a statement from Executive Director Jason Walsh:
“We are ecstatic to see the Biden-Harris administration’s continued efforts to grow offshore wind development on our coasts. This lease sale is a promise to the nation that we can have clean, renewable energy and good-paying jobs in coastal states. These lease sales will lead to domestic manufacturing that can generate economic gain in communities all over the country and clean energy that will clean up our air, water, and soil.
“When we invest in domestic offshore wind energy, we invest in the future of our nation.”
