BlueGreen Alliance Endorses Biden-Harris Ticket

June 6, 2024

The BlueGreen Alliance (BGA) enthusiastically endorsed President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris for re-election during a virtual press conference today. This is the second presidential endorsement in the organization’s 18-year history. BGA endorsed President Biden and Vice President Harris in 2020.

“President Biden is the most pro-worker, pro-climate action president we’ve ever had,” said BlueGreen Alliance Executive Director Jason Walsh. “His leadership is delivering for workers and the environment, and he is ready to continue the fight for a clean, prosperous, and equitable future for all in a second term. Meanwhile his opponent, former President Donald Trump, continues to promise to make our country a dictatorship and eliminate the investments growing manufacturing and jobs in communities across the country. Trump failed at every level during his four years as president, and we cannot allow him to return to the highest office in the land.”

Speakers at the press conference said said the stakes were too high not to weigh in with an endorsement and highlighted significant victories in Biden’s first term, including:

  • Helping working people recover from economic chaos caused by the COVID-19 virus—putting America’s economy back on a path to recovery;
  • Acting to repair and modernize the nation’s infrastructure;
  • Making a historic investment in America to rebuild and retool our manufacturing sector;
  • Leading the fight to tackle the climate crisis and put us on a pathway to net-zero emissions by 2050; and
  • Supporting unions and standing by workers who are fighting for a better future for themselves, their families, and their communities.

“President Biden has created a historic opportunity to expand the manufacturing economy and grow family-sustaining, middle-class jobs,” said United Steelworkers (USW) International President David McCall. “This success comes as a result of his deep commitment to empowering workers and making needed investments in their long-term success, modernizing our infrastructure, rebuilding our domestic supply chains, strengthening workers’ access to collective bargaining, and much more.”

“CWA is dedicated to growing our power in the workplace, building a labor movement stronger than ever before, and protecting and revitalizing our democracy,” said IUE-CWA President Carl Kennebrew. “To realize this vision, we need partners in public office who will join with us to grow power for working people. President Biden and Vice President Harris are the partners we need to continue to fight for a better future for all.”

“President Biden has led with a clear vision for confronting the climate crisis,” said NRDC Action Fund President and CEO Manish Bapna. “He’s delivered the strongest climate action yet. He’s done it in a way that’s cutting costs for our families, creating jobs in red states and blue, and strengthening the supply chain for the building blocks of a modern economy.”

“President Biden has invested in the workers and communities in Western Pennsylvania, and he has lived up to his commitment to fighting for a better future for us all,” said IUPAT District Council 57 Organizing Director Claire Cawley. “I’m proud to be here today representing my union because President Biden has kept his promises to repair our crumbling infrastructure and help revitalize our communities by bringing good union jobs to working people in my state and around the country.”

“I know first-hand how much President Biden supports workers,” said Dee Thomas, a USW member at Blue Bird Corporation in Georgia. “Thanks to his leadership, we’re building a cleaner future and healthier communities. But even more than that, President Biden is making sure these investments in the future are also helping people like me have good union jobs.”

The group also highlighted some of the many failures of former President Trump during his only term as president, including:

  • Trump’s failure to bring back promised manufacturing jobs;
  • The lack of action to combat climate change and income inequity;
  • Trump’s inability to work with Congress to pass an infrastructure package;
  • His actions that undermined worker health and safety;
  • Trump’s anti-union policies; and
  • His failure to uphold the most important duty of the president—to protect and sustain our democracy.

“Unlike his one-term predecessor, Joe Biden actually delivered for workers, the climate, and our future,” said Walsh. “He and Kamala Harris have earned our endorsement.”
