Offshore Wind Remains Best Option for Clean Electricity in Northeast, Despite Recent Setback
Ørsted, a Denmark-based leader in the offshore wind industry, announced Tuesday that it has backed out of two projects planned off the coast of New Jersey. The projects, Ocean Wind 1 and 2, would have been the first such projects in New Jersey.
In response to the announcement, the BlueGreen Alliance released the following statement from Executive Director Jason Walsh:
“The successful development of the offshore wind industry will create good jobs up and down our coasts while driving down emissions and—if paired with supply chain investments—help revitalize U.S. manufacturing. We are disappointed by Ørsted’s decision to pull out of Ocean Wind 1 and 2 but know that, despite this setback, offshore wind remains the best option for the future of clean electricity in the Northeast.”
