The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) today announced the rollout of the $1 billion Inflation Reduction Act Green and Resilient Retrofits Program. The announcement took place at the Dunn Family Coop Apartments in Center Line, MI and was followed by a roundtable discussion attended by BlueGreen Alliance Michigan Regional Program Manager Frank Houston. The program will translate into lower energy bills for households, quality jobs in the community, and reduced emissions that move the nation toward its climate action and equity goals. In October 2022, the BlueGreen Alliance submitted comments on a HUD Request for Information on the program.

In response to the announcement, the BlueGreen Alliance released the following statement from Executive Director Jason Walsh:

“This program is an opportunity for HUD not only to take strides toward meeting our nation’s climate goals, but to ensure efficient, healthy, accessible, and climate-resilient housing for disadvantaged and marginalized communities. Promoting healthy and low-carbon building materials, ensuring climate resilience, promoting high road labor standards, and ensuring the use of U.S.-made building materials can further maximize the benefits of this program. We look forward to continued work with HUD on this important program.”
