BlueGreen Alliance statement on the House passage of the Water Resources Development Act (WRDA) of 2016. The House WRDA bill includes a provision authorizing direct funding for the ongoing water crisis in Flint, Michigan.
WASHINGTON, D.C. (September 28, 2016) The U.S. House of Representatives today passed H.R. 5303, the Water Resources Development Act (WRDA) of 2016. The House WRDA bill includes a provision authorizing direct funding for the ongoing water crisis in Flint, Michigan. The following is a statement from BlueGreen Alliance Executive Director Kim Glas:
“Today’s passage in the House of the Water Resources Development Act brings the citizens of Flint, Michigan, a step closer to receiving the federal aid necessary to help mitigate the ongoing water crisis affecting the community.
“We applaud the provision put forth by Representatives Dan Kildee (MI-5) and John Moolenaar (MI-4), which authorizes funding to the Flint community. Flint has been waiting nearly a year to receive desperately needed federal aid to address this disaster. The immediate and potentially lifelong consequences of lead exposure will affect Flint for generations to come.
“The passage of the House WRDA bill is a critical step in getting Flint the funding it needs. The people of Flint have waited far too long.”
