Announces Participation in a Dozen New Climate Change Partnerships

New York, NY (September 23, 2014) – Today the United Nations Climate Summit convenes in New York City with President Obama and over 100 world leaders. President Obama announced a series of initiatives to step up U.S. engagement in global efforts to address climate change, including efforts to increase global climate resilience and reduce methane emissions. “This is the kind of leadership Americans expect from U.S. leaders, especially in light of the People’s Climate March this weekend. The series of unprecedented measures announced by the president today that will help communities the world over become more climate-resilient, reduce methane emissions, and better predict extreme weather. This action affirms our commitment to national and international climate action.

“As we begin the countdown to the Paris Conference of the Parties (COP) in 2015, the expectation is that more countries will step up to the plate and show they’re ready to address the greatest challenge we face today—climate change. It’s a problem that’s not going away, but it’s also an opportunity to create and maintain quality, family-sustaining jobs. World leaders must seize this opportunity.”
