WASHINGTON, DC (September 27, 2013) – Today, the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) released a summary of findings for its Fifth Assessment Report on the current state of scientific knowledge relevant to climate change. BlueGreen Alliance partners released the following statements in reaction to the IPCC summary report:

“This Fifth Assessment Report is yet another wakeup call,” said USW International President Leo W. Gerard. “When the 19th annual negotiations of international climate change commences November in Warsaw, a strong global agreement might be in sight. Failure to act now will only worsen the quality of life for future generations.”

“Scientists around the world agree that the threat of climate disruption is now a dangerous new reality” said Michael Brune, Executive Director of the Sierra Club. “The findings in this report confirm that we need the common-sense protections from climate-disrupting carbon pollution that the Obama Administration announced last week and continued action to spur job-creating clean energy across the nation.”

“Again and again the world’s best scientists have provided damning evidence that climate change is impacting the world as we know it,” said David Foster, Executive Director of the BlueGreen Alliance. “President Obama’s Climate Action Plan makes progress toward responding to this urgent economic and environmental threat.
