“Today is a day of disappointment for the working people of Indiana and the rest of the nation. Instead of focusing on creating good jobs that Hoosiers need right now, those supporting ‘right-to-work’ have passed legislation that will lower wages and benefits for all workers at a time when families continue to struggle.

“This legislation is a blow to unions, but it’s also a blow to the environment. Union workers are better trained to respond to environmental hazards and more likely to blow the whistle on toxic threats and environmental problems. What’s more, over the last 40 years, labor unions have played a critical role in implementing some of our most important environmental legislation, such as the Clean Air and Clean Water Acts.

“Time and again, these attacks on workers have backfired on those leading the charge to turn back the clock on workers’ rights. This effort in Indiana will too backfire. Those voting for this measure have shown that — despite a professed goal to create jobs — partisanship and political expediency have once again won the day.”
