Clean Fleets Partnership Key to Winning 21st Century Jobs
President Obama announced the "National Clean Fleets Partnership" in Landover, Maryland. BlueGreen Alliance Executive Director David Foster said this partnership was key to winning the jobs of the 21st century.
WASHINGTON, D.C. (April 1, 2011) After President Obama announced the “National Clean Fleets Partnership” today in Landover, Maryland, the BlueGreen Alliance released the following statement from Executive Director David Foster:
“The BlueGreen Alliance applauds President Obama’s announcement today of the National Clean Fleets Partnership. Working with the private sector to build the next generation of clean vehicles here in America will not only help us meet President Obama’s commitment to reduce our dependence on foreign oil by one-third by 2025, but it will also help protect our environment and create good jobs building a truly 21st century clean energy economy.
“We also commend the companies – especially AT&T, UPS and Verizon, which have all supported the BlueGreen Alliance Foundation’s Good Jobs, Green Jobs National Conference – that gave their commitments today to deploy over 20,000 advanced technology vehicles, saving over 7 million gallons of petroleum. Already, advanced vehicle technology is creating good jobs across our nation, and this program will help ensure that momentum continues.
“Today’s announcement comes as we hear that our economy gained more than 200,000 jobs last month. This news is definitely a sign of hope for the millions of unemployed. But we have more work to do. The U.S. must take more actions like the National Clean Fleets Partnership to revitalize our nation’s middle class and to position America to lead in the global 21st century clean energy economy.”
